Traffic Fines in Turkey

As of October 8, 2026, Turkey has updated the procedures for collecting administrative fines. Ignoring traffic violations is becoming riskier for drivers.

What drivers need to know

Traffic cameras: Fines for recorded violations should not be ignored.

Unpaid fines: Outstanding traffic fines may be subject to compulsory collection.

Foreign plates: Enforcement measures may also apply to vehicles registered abroad.

Is this a new tax on foreign-plated vehicles?

No. This is not a new tax. It concerns updated mechanisms for collecting outstanding debts resulting from traffic violations.

If you live in Turkey or visit the country in a foreign-plated vehicle, check your fines regularly and pay any outstanding amounts on time.
